Corporate Controller

Samson Tug & Barge is seeking an experienced accountant to join us as our corporate controller. This person would join us at our corporate headquarters in Sitka, Alaska. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, this position will assist in the oversight and management of all accounting functions. The ideal candidate will have strong data management skills.

Job Description

  • Review monthly accounting close process including analytical review of the monthly operating results to ensure accurate accounting records are maintained
  • Preparation of monthly financial statements and related footnotes
  • Preparation of the year to date cash flow and perform cash projections for management
  • Assist the Chief Financial Officer in maintaining records for retirement accounts (i.e., 401-K Plan)
  • Maintenance of fixed asset records and coordinating with Samson’s equipment control group
  • Implement, document and maintain adequate and effective processes to improve the close and reporting cycles to ensure timely and accurate reporting
  • Assist accounts payable clerk to ensure accurate and timely production of all financial information
  • Proper analytical review of the asset operations from a balance sheet, income statement and cash flow perspective as well as an overall business perspective· Any other responsibilities that may be assigned from time to time.

Job Requirements / Education

  • Bachelors and /or Master Degree of Business Administration with an emphasis in accounting
  • Minimum of 5 years in the accounting and finance sector
  • Minimum of 2 years in a position equivalent to a controller or higher responsibilities
  • Credibility, ethical, clean financial history, must keep and maintain confidential information
  • Conscientious about timeliness of assignments and quality of work product
  • Possess exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent GAAP and financial reporting technical skills
  • Must have strong computer skills, including a mastery of common word processing, spreadsheet and database applications
  • Candidates with experience with MS Dynamics NAV (Navision) a plus.

Ketchikan Office Manager/ Documentation Specialist

Samson Tug & Barge is seeking an experienced office manager / documentation specialist to join us as our Ketchikan Office Manager. This person would work in our Southern Southeast (SSE) hub in Ketchikan, Alaska. Reporting to the Southeast Regional Manager, this position will assist in the oversight and management of all administrative and documentation functions.

Job Description

  • Prepare and review accounting information, including:
    • Bank deposits, credit card logs and cash register reconciliation
    • Organizing and forwarding invoices to the finance office
    • Support human resources, including new hire paperwork processing
    • Time sheet processing
  • Oversee the accurate recording of shipping documentation
    • Review all documentation between
      • Wrangell / Petersburg / Juneau / Sitka
      • Ketchikan and SSE ports
    • Enter documentation as needed
    • Enter SSE manifests to the company’s operational database
    • Process northbound manifests & load sheets
    • Weekly barge load reconciliation
  • Assist with equipment tracking
    • Emailing daily equipment status logs for multiple locations
    • Assist with inventory and documentation, as needed
  • Customer Service
    • Provide customers with shipment information
    • Assist customers as needed
  • Oversee office operations, assist with office operations in other locations
    • Oversee a small staff
    • Maintain office supplies
    • Cover for other staff, as needed

Job Requirements / Education

  • Minimum of 3 years as an Office Manager or a position with higher responsibilities
  • Conscientious about timeliness of assignments and quality of work product
  • Possess exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Must have strong computer skills, including a mastery of Excel
  • Candidates with college business course work completed preferred

Transportation Equipment Manager

Samson Tug & Barge is seeking an experienced transportation equipment manager to oversee Samson’s large equipment fleet. Responsibilities will include equipment procurement, inventory management and our maintenance function. The equipment manager will also maintain records, licenses, inspections, warrantees, and service agreements for all the organization's shipping and operating equipment.

Job Description

  • Maintain the organization’s equipment tracking system
  • Maintain a current inventory of all equipment
  • Coordinate the acquisition of all shipping and operating equipment
  • Oversee the maintenance of all equipment
  • Dispose of all equipment that is no longer needed
  • Work with managers to optimize equipment usage throughout the system
  • Assist the Cargo Operations Manager to ensure the organization is using the safest, most efficient equipment possible
  • Any other responsibilities that may be assigned from time to time

Job Requirements / Education

  • Must be familiar with commonly used transportation equipment including:
  • Forklifts, chassis, tractors, trucks, gensets, shipping containers, refrigerated containers and related transportation equipment
  • Credible, ethical and must keep and maintain confidential information
  • Conscientious about timeliness of assignments and quality of work product
  • Must have strong computer skills, including the ability to manipulate large amounts of data in spreadsheets
  • Experience tracking large fleets (in excess of 10, 000 units) in the transportation industry preferred
